KNOWLEDGE BUILDING ACTIONS

Applied research on paradigm shifts needed for transformative systems to build on what works for learning and teaching over long-term horizons

ACTIVE LEARNING FOR EFFECTIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING

Small-group learning to acquire critical transversal skills in demand by today's employers.....

* Critical Thinking
* Collaboration/Working in Teams
* Effective Communication
* Creativity for Problem-Solving
* Digital Literacy
By translating socio-constructivist theory into practice, compulsory education can become a dynamic, student-centered environment where students actively construct knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and prepare for the complexities of the real world.

Teachers serve as essential facilitators, guides, and mentors in this process, making teacher training a cornerstone of our approach. Also serves teachers and instructors in non-formal learning environments.

Ever-evolving technology, particularly tools that support online instruction, enables knowledge-building through socio-constructivism pedagogy for effective distance learning across the globe. This approach breaks down geographic barriers, making education accessible to learners everywhere.

PROBLEM-SOLVING SOCIETAL'S WICKED PROBLEMS

WICKED PROBLEM = a complex issue that is difficult or impossible to solve because it involves interconnected factors, lacks a clear solution, and often has conflicting interests among stakeholders. These problems are characterized by their evolving nature, making them resistant to simple, linear solutions.

Solving "wicked problems" is one of the most complex and challenging tasks faced by individuals and societies today.

Unlike ordinary problems, which have clear solutions and can often be tackled with straightforward methods, wicked problems are intricate, interconnected, and often have no single solution. These problems are "wicked" because they involve multiple stakeholders with conflicting interests, are deeply rooted in social, economic, and environmental systems, and can evolve over time as new information emerges. Issues like climate change, poverty, public health crises, and global inequality are all examples of wicked problems. They defy simple solutions and require innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to address them effectively. Solving wicked problems demands creative thinking, collaboration across various fields, and a willingness to adapt strategies as new challenges arise. It involves not just addressing symptoms, but understanding the underlying causes and considering the broader impact of any proposed solutions.

Educating tomorrow's leaders, workers, scientists and active citizens today

A world-wide change in the orientation to school learning has taken place, and socio-constructivism pedagogy - also knwon as knowledge building - is on the forefront. Our team of researchers and educators have developed curricula that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and active engagement in addressing grand societal challenges, aligned with UNESCO's Information & Communication Technologies Competency Framework for Teaching.

Knowledge Building emphasizes the role of social interaction in knowledge construction, digital literacy and deep learning that prepare students to be informed, empathetic, and socially responsible citizens. Knowledge Building Actions is a generative social NGO that focuses on creating positive social change and actively works to generate new possibilities and solutions to societal challenges that empower communities and foster long-term development. Our team of researchers and teachers provide an arsenal of tools to help educators help their students become competent workers, change-making innovators and society's future leaders. We support activities that can catalyze a paradigm shift in education to foster transformative change, promote opportunities for teacher professional development that enhances the craft of teaching, and prepare students to sort through information overload in a word filled with volatility, uncertainty, complexities, and ambiguity to focus on what adds value to their understanding of how the world works.

Learning and Teaching

ENGAGING CURRICULA

We design multi-media presentations and delivery formats specifically geared toward the cognitive abilities of students in primary, middle and secondary compulsory education, using a socio-constructivist approach that focuses on engaging students in collaborative and critical thinking activities to address complex societal challenges like climate change

TEACHER TRAINING

Socio-constructivist teaching methods require a shift in mindset and pedagogy, so ongoing support and opportunities for collaboration and reflection are critical for successful implementation. By following a specially-designed training plan, teachers will be better prepared to create student-centered and interactive learning experiences in compulsory education classrooms

INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

Aligning socio-constructivist instruction with international standards like the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (ICT CFT) and the EU Green Deal is important for ensuring that compulsory education can effectively prepares students of all ages for a rapid-changing, society filled with complexity and uncertainty
